The size of it
Our pool tables are eight-footers, with a bed of about 2235 mm. The snooker tables in the next room have 3569 mm. Drawn at the same scale, that is the entire difference between the two games. Everything else follows from it.
Shorter distances forgive an imperfect strike. Square-jawed pockets take a ball that arrives at an angle snooker’s rounded jaws would spit back out. This is why pool is the right first table and snooker is the one to graduate to.
